✨Walking in Love: Christ Our Fragrant Offering
Text: Ephesians 5:2 "And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."
Paul calls believers to imitate God by walking in love.
But he doesn't leave us without a model, he points us directly to Christ, who gave Himself up for us. To understand the depth of this love, Paul uses Old Testament imagery of the "pleasing aroma" sacrifices in Leviticus. Each sacrifice foreshadowed Christ, and His offering on the cross fulfills them all.
🤎Main Points
1. The Burnt Offering | Christ's Perfection (Leviticus 1)
Entirely consumed by fire: nothing held back.
Symbolized total dedication to God.
Fulfillment in Christ: His perfect obedience and complete surrender to the Father's will (John 10:17-18).
Application: Our lives should be lived with nothing held back from God! Complete and full surrender.
2. The Grain Offering | Christ's Devotion (Leviticus 2)
Offered fine flour, oil, and frankincense; no blood shed.
Symbolized a life lived in devotion and service.
Fulfillment in Christ: His humanity and daily obedience were a constant "fragrant aroma" to God.
Application: Even in our ordinary work, when done unto the Lord, our lives become a pleasing offering (Col. 3:23).
3. The Peace Offering | Christ's Reconciliation (Leviticus 3)
Shared meal between God, priest, and worshiper.
Symbolized restored fellowship.
Fulfillment in Christ: He Himself is our peace, reconciling us to God and to one another (Ephesians
2:14-16).
• Application: As those reconciled, we are called to be peacemakers, extending forgiveness and fellowship.
4. The Ultimate Fulfillment | Christ's Sacrifice on the Cross
Unlike repeated Levitical sacrifices, Christ's offering was once for all (Hebrews 10:10-14).
His love displayed God's glory in its fullest form, perfect, unconditional, divine love.
His death and resurrection opened the way for us to walk in that same love.
🤎Application | Walking in Love as a Fragrant Offering
Imitate Christ: Live a life of sacrificial love, reflecting His devotion.
Surrender fully: Hold nothing back; our time, gifts, and hearts belong to Him.
Pursue peace: Seek reconciliation in relationships, modeling Christ's peacemaking work.
Daily devotion: Small acts of obedience and service are a sweet fragrance to God.
🤎Closing Reflection
When Paul says, "walk in love," he isn't calling us to sentimentality but to sacrificial living. Just as Christ's life and death rose as a pleasing aroma to the Father, so our lives when surrendered in love, become a fragrance that glorifies God and blesses others.
